Standing in Solidarity with the Filipino Community

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life at Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Block Party. The loss of eleven innocent lives and the injury of many others has shaken our entire community.

To our Filipino friends, families, and community members on the North Shore and beyond: We stand with you in this time of unimaginable grief. What should have been a joyful celebration of Filipino culture and heritage has turned into a devastating loss. We mourn alongside you.

In moments like these, seeking understanding is natural — and it’s just as important that we approach conversations about mental health and violence with care and compassion. Living with a mental health condition does not automatically mean being violent; in fact, people with mental health challenges are much more likely to be survivors of violence themselves. As we grieve and support those affected, we must also be mindful not to reinforce harmful stereotypes that deepen stigma and isolation. Our focus must remain on healing, understanding, and standing with our community during this difficult and unprecedented time.

At CMHA North & West Vancouver, we are here to offer care, support, and connection to all those impacted by this tragedy.
